Why did the railways come to wrexham?

The railway history of Wrexham is very complicated as there were numerous lines around the town at one time - I'm looking at a map at the moment - two lines approach from the south (one via Wrexham - ex GWR and the other from Bangor-on-Dee - ex GCR) and three go north (the GWR to Chester, GCR to  Mold and the other to Hope Exchange and Coonah's Quay) and those are just the main lines. Wrexham was the centre of a coal mining area and railways were first introduced to carry that coal and at one time there were many branches serving the coal mines.

Well if you want a proper answer consider it forms part of the main line into Wales.  You could also consider what Wrexham had to offer in the industrial era such as coal, steel or wool.  Remember the railways were built to transport materials and commodities not transport people.
