I thought they used the letters "A" - "Z" and dependent upon the amount of hurricanes would start all over with the alphabet.

  1. The first system was Tropical Storm Arthur. It formed on May 31 and dissipated on June 1.  They always start with A every year, no matter what letter the last season ends with.

  2. They always start with A.  Aurther was this year's A name.  I guess you missed it b/c is wasn't very impressive.  It was a Pacific ocean storm that crossed into the gulf and then NHC named it!

  3. Because they already used "A" for tropical storm "Arthur", which struck Belize at the end of May. As it turns out Arthur never developed into a full-blown hurricane, but it was named nevertheless.

  4. No.. they always begin with 'A'.    You only just remember 'Bertha'.    And Bertha's path is pretty typical by the way,  given the current set up.

    'Arthur'  was the first one..
