Why did these people say that someone who likes The Shawshank Redemption is racist?

Some people who would consider themselves film snobs said that someone who likes The Shawshank Redemption is racist. What is it about the movie that might have made them draw this conclusion?

Because the film takes place in a prison that is populated with blacks and a white educated man gets sent there and manages to escape and sets up the the main black character for life.

The white man is clearly above, smarter, more clever then these down fallen blacks.
