  1. Who really cares about the Americans? They are insignificant in the football world. The correct name of the sport is Association FOOTBALL, you know it, I know it and 90% of the world know it. Americans just like to be different, it makes them feel special.

  2. Handball sounds so g*y

but it suits that g*y sport well

  3. ther is n other sport called handball, so u cant name 2 sports handball, The word "soccer" is actually the evolved contraction for "Association Football", which has its roots back to the 1880s.

If you were involved with Association Football, you were called an "associater", or played "assoc football", to differentiate yourself from the amateur ranks.

Eventually in early part of 20th century, and with the help of the butchering Cockney, Welsh, Brogue, Scotch, and Irish dialects, "assoc" evolved (or de-evolved) into the contraction we know today as "Soccer".

And it was this term that was carried by immigrants as they started and established their own Association Football leagues in the United States.
