Why did they youthanize that horse in Kentucky?

My friend told me that a horse that got second place in the Kentucky Derby this weekend was youthanized. I'm not a huge horse race fan, but does anybody know why they would want to make the horse younger just for getting second place? I'm confused...

  1. euthanize.  It broke two ankles.  One and they could have put it in a special sling to hold it up until it healed, but with two busted there was not chance of her living.

  2. euthanize, not youthanize, doesn't mean to make younger it means to be put down. If a horse brakes both of his ankles he can not recover,I don't know why, so they put the horse"out of it's misery"

  3. Eight Belles was euthanized because she broke 2 bones in her front ankles and she was in killer pain and there was no way she could get up

  4. She broke bones in both front legs, and a horse has to stand on four legs, unlike people.  You can't make a horse lay down long enough for the bones to heal, it's not good for them.

  5. youthanize ?????

Is that like turning the clock back or what?

Euthanasia 1606, from Gk. euthanasia "an easy or happy death," from eu- "good" + thanatos "death." Sense of "legally sanctioned mercy killing" is first recorded in Eng. 1869.

  6. ok.

    her name's eight bells

    she came in second

as the jockey was cooling her down i think he was cantering and she callapsed

they found that both of her front ankles were broken

and there was really no way to heal them

if they had kept her alive she would be miserable

so they put her to sleep

    horrible stuff

  7. it fractured its two front ankles or something. its a shame they hda to euthanize it.

  8. The horses name was Eight Belles. He was bred to have thin legs - not really made for racing - . so in their cooldown after the race he broke his two front ankles and he couldnt get up. So they had to put him down right there on the track. Its a shame it had to go that way......

  9. It broke both of its front ankles and no horse can surive from that so it had to be put down. I was at the derby but think God i didnt see it actually happen! It did put a damper on the whole derby for me and most people there.

  10. That horse broke her front ankles ( broke through the skin.) She was in so much pain they had to put her down. She wouldn't even stand up and it is never good when your horse won't stand ( They ALWAYS get back up)

  11. the reason they did that was because he broke his two front ankels so thay didnt want him/her to be in pain so they put him to sleep so that the horse wouldnt be suffering while they moved the horse.

the anly way i know is because i was watching on tv and my grandpa won some of the money

  12. this is a joke right? YOUTHanize? made younger? your joking...

  13. The word is "Euthanize" and it means the horse was killed. (not made younger, lol)

  14. You need a better question.

  15. The horse broke both her ankles after finishing the race, and the bone actually went through the skin. There is no way for a horse to recover from that so they put her to sleep.

  16. Because the horse broke it's legs....

  17. omg.  avon's anew products are awsome.  if they can make a horse look younger so will you!

  18. The word you want is "euthanized". This means DESTROYED, NOT made younger. In horseman's talk, the words "putting her down" mean the same thing. Eight Belles was humanely destroyed because she broke both front legs- she suffered compound fractures of her cannon bones, which are the long bones in the front legs between the knees and the ankles. Horses are not like people- when they break their legs, they can't be put in a cast and told to lie quietly for the 3 to 6 months it would take for such an injury to heal properly. No, the filly's owners and the vets made the right choice and put her out of her misery.

I hope this is not a joke.

  19. youthanize? What does that even mean? Is that like to make him young again? Are do you mean euthanize?

  20. Like everybody said it broke both front bones in the ankle but the main reason is because the bones went through and caused an infection in both legs. So basicaly you euthinize her or she will die in more pain

  21. Please tell me this is a joke.  How would they make the horse younger, with a time machine?

  22. Both front ankels were broken their was nothing they could do to save it.

If you are not over ten stop reading.

Are you really that stupid. I hope you are a child or that this was a strange joke. Please don't reproduce.
