i was doing a disc cleanup last night with vista's ''clean manager'' as usual and it said i had about 86 GB of free space, most of which were ''windows error report files'' well, i foolishly chose to clean up even though i knew that was an extremely high amount to be cleaned, well as it was cleaning things stopped working, i tried to cancel but it was too late, next thing i knew my pc would not load up, it went to start up repair but it did not work, so i had to reinstall windows which erased everything.

WHAT HAPPENED?

why would disc cleanup try too delete all my good programs?

one note: earlier that day i ripped some cd's, i also ripped them on an older computer that had a virus, could one of the cd's be infected?

if so how do i find out which one is the culprit?

  1. You can scan the cds with a anti-virus scanner. just right click on the cd drive icon in Computer folder. Dont rerip them till after you scan them. Also, update your security software as soon as possible before doing anything else.

Its very possible a virus of some type caused this issue. Really sad since Vista is supposed to be more secure!! I guess i'll have to be more watchfull myself since i have Vista as well.

  2. yeah it is highly possible it was a virus i would not put those cd's back into your vista computer if you want to wipe unneeded files out from your computer safely here is a good one ive used it for the past 6 years has kept my old computer running like new

has a free 30 day trial after that it is like 30.00 a year but well worth it cause it deletes files that even windows scan disk does not and does it safely
