Question:

Why did this happen and how could my manager do this to me? ?

I resigned from my job. I left before my two weeks as my manager was hostile. It was recommended that I leave early as it is common practice in that office to do such.

Its been two weeks, and I have spoken directly to all my staff via phone calls placed to me and by me to them.

I received a call today from one of my ex employees. It was shared to me that my manager is telling staff that I walked off my job and that if I have been text messaging, calling or emailing anyone and if they feel uncomfortable let her know so she can "nip it in the bud".

I almost called my old manager on this one, but I refuse to give her the satisfaction! Why did she do this?

  1. She's obviously bitter, but she's also breaking the law.  Privacy laws forbid her from discussing the details of your leaving with other employees.  You could actually sue her if it mattered enough to you.

  2. I don't know who told you it was common practice to leave before your two weeks was up but don't listen to them ever again.  I don't care how many people have done it before you are only hurting yourself.

This is why your ex-boss is speaking out against you.  You ex-boss perceives what you did as resigning and walking out.  She doesn't owe you any favors when she sees you as a deserter.  Don't do that again if you expect to maintain a good reputation with your employers and to have good references for future jobs.  I don't care how bad the situation is you must stay and finish things out so that you will leave on a positive note and have their good will should you need them in the future.

  3. Do you know something about her that might get her fired? Well I ask because it sounds like she wants to discredit you in some way. Then again maybe she's jealous of the friendships, you have with your ex- employees. You had to have been a good boss in order for them to maintain contact with you today.

  4. She's trying to seem as if she's the victim, that you are in the wrong.  Most of the employees there probably already know that she didn't handle it well, it's not helping her reputation to smear you.  Why are you concerned with this?  You've resigned and no longer work there.  The staff that you've talked to already know what's going on.  Let it go.

  5. Because she is mad at you.
