The war that is going right now in Georgia already firstly Georgia is the first post soviet state which moved far from soviet past and started to build democracy, secondly - Georgia not only distanced itself from the past but also challenged the dictatorship in Russia and promoted western values more openly and actively in third world then majority of western countries and thirdly - Georgia is the only country which managed to position itself as a actually these are the very reasons that provoked Russia to challenge young democracy and try to push it back to dirty past of stateless existence.

Understanding war in georgia now is understanding the future of the world order. The new cold war has already started if EU and US are going to defend their values and not betray their principles. Russia made clear statement by engaging in war. For Russia there is no limit to act as far as it has interdependence with western countries. This is the best condition of cold war which Russia wants to initiate and already did by challenging Georgian democracy. If progressive forces do not look carefully at this case there is a risk that everything that was gained during the last fifty years will loose meaning and western democracy will erode.

  1. Russia wants the land. And they bsically said we are bigger so your screwed.

  2. Georgia through state sponsored terrorism killed thousands of Russian citizens in the region, which rightfully belonged to Russia. It was only given to Georgia because it is rich in resources. So of course this was a perfect time for Russia to strike.

As far as a cold war you are way off. The cold war is the USA vs. everyone else.

  3. Because they pissed off the russians and tried to invade russian territory
