  4. The name (Bomaby) was changed by an act of the Indian parliament in 1997. The reason of changing  was that in two of the local languages, Marathi and Gujarati. Bombay is english word and Mumbai is a Marathi word.It is also believed that the Mumbai word reflects the name of a koli godess Mumba Devi.

  5. well the original name of the place was mumbapuri, the name has significance from the Goddess mumba Devi.

    the Britishers changed the name to Bombay, bcz they were not able to pronounce mumbai.
