The Normans built castles across England which helped them to be successful and conquer England in different ways. These castles were strong and sturdy and usually consisted of a motte and a bailey! When William was conquering England he built castles in the cities and villages as he moved through the country. These castles were fortified and big, unlike the large earth ramparts that some small villages used to defend their land. This meant that his land was safe while he invaded the other villages (it was easy for him because they often had poor defenses!). The castles helped him to keep control over the land when he was in different places. Secondly, building castles could cause intimidation to locals and it showed them that he was here to stay (not just visiting) and reminded them who was boss!

william  built castles so that:... the area could be controled by him . ,to remind locals who was incharge (THE BOSS!),they were places for political events to go on,it was harder for locals to rebell againsed william and so that william could have a ready army 24/7/364 Easter day off!!!!

He built castles so that he can make people be very safe an he wonted to prove to everyone tht he is a good king and is good at everything he does an tht the castles may be hard 2 attack and much easy to defend !!!!
