  1. I knew from an early age I wanted to work with children. I wasn't sure if it was as a school teacher though. I knew that I loved children and could make a difference in their lives, so I took ECE when I was 27 years old. I had finally found the right fit for me. When I graduated, I opened an infant centre and operated it for 7 years. I worked for a child care centre with preschoolers for 7 years when I closed my infant centre, then I went out on my own again. I opened a child care centre specializing in the arts: music, dance, art, literacy. I have been researching and developing our curriculum for over 10 years. I have found my niche and I love what I do. I have 2 locations and employ 11 teachers. I am very happy with the way my career has gone. I have been doing this for over 20 years and have not regretted a single moment.

  2. I've always really liked children because they're so honest and always asking questions. I wanted to see how they interact with other and the way they learn. I was really surprised at the speed at which they learn. They remember everything you say. They never stop learning and doing at that age, and always bring new challenges.

  3. My favorite thing to play when I was growing up was 'school'.  I had a classroom set up in our basement with desks, a chalkboard, and even real school books, gradebooks and worksheets!  I used to spend hours down there grading papers, making up assignments and 'teaching'!

In highschool and college I got a job at a daycare, but didn't really like it.  I was working with toddlers and it wasn't rewarding to me at all.  This made me question my desire to teach.  So in college, I tried every major out there: premed, biology, physical therapy, business...But nothing felt rewarding to me.  Nothing satisfied me.  My mom kept telling my that I would make a great teacher and that I was made for it.  Finally, I gave in and switched my major.  For the first time in my life I felt like I was on the right track and felt happy.  I starting actually going to classes and cared about getting my degree.

I knew I wanted to do something that made a difference, I just wasn't sure how I wanted to make one!  Teaching is so rewarding.  Everyday you get to influence and change the lives of students.  You could be the one that opens their minds to new possiblities or opens their eyes to new experiences.  It's great!  I'm glad I finally accepted my calling! :)
