  1. I was a Teacher Assistant in a school for children with physical disabilities and realized that I never wanted to leave.  I had a Bachelor's Degree at the time and went back for a Masters in Special Ed.  Now, I am teaching SpEd Health and I love it!!!!  And...going for my 2nd Masters in Health Ed.

  2. I chose the field because I was told there was nothing wrong with my son so I educated myself in order to fight for him. He has autism. I also wanted to be in this field to make sure other parents don't get the run around like I did. I can be on both sides of the IEP meetings.

  3. Well when I was choosing a major in college, I wanted one where I could teach.. but not just regular teaching. And I wanted one where I could help others.. but nothing like nursing. Special education seemed like the perfect combo of both! Teaching and helping! yay! :)

  4. To help kids who really needed it.

  5. When I was a child, I suffered severe abuse and I struggled in school. Because I had a fairly high IQ, I was called lazy and stubborn. I began acting out because of the rage inside me. No one ever asked me why I was acting that way.

I went into special ed because I wanted to be the one person in a child's life to ask the question, "Why are you hurting so badly and how can I help?"

  6. Because my son was diagnosed with autism.  After seeing him in special ed for 3 years, and seeing the miracles they did with him, I wanted to help do that for someone else!
