Why didn't Donnie Yen finish him with the armbar?

I know it's a movie, and they probably want to prolong the MMA looking fight scene.

There were armbars, ankle locks, even a figure four and a slam.

I just can't figure out why an armbar isn't enough to finish a fight.

I also wonder if anyone can name all the mma moves there. So many

  1. Arm bars, toe holds and all the other techniques you described are NOT mma techniques!!!

These techniques are found in Chinese, Okinawan and Japanese martial arts as well as in Pankration, Sambo and many others!

When are you little mma wannabes going to start taking what you love, seriously, and RESEARCH THE ORIGINS OF THE TECHNIQUES, before coming here asking ridiculous questions?

This is a movie!!! The script called for it!!! I haven't even seen the clip... all I had to see was "Donnie Yen", to know what it was!

    Come on, CHILDREN!!!!

No one should want to learn from someone who "teaches" "mixed-martial arts". Go and learn a martial art to mastery. Once you have a solid foundation - about 8 to 10 years in a REAL martial art, then go and find someone with as solid a foundation as the one you worked hard to attain, that you could learn something else from and cross train with that person. Teach what you know and learn what they know.

This way, you will not be given bits and pieces of techniques. You will have a huge arsenal. You will have a solid foundation. You will see that what everybody else does, is not as complete as what you have.

Do it right, if you're going to do it!

If not, go and play hockey or something.

There are many people here asking questions like this. If you are training in China, with a real Teacher, why the h**l are you here asking such stupid, commonly asked questions???

Go train and forget about what Donnie Yen did or didn't do in a movie!!!

  2. Yeah, I wondered that myself when I saw it but you hit the nail there. They only did it to prolong the fight. It's an error.

The only other MMA film I know of is Never Back Down, which I really didn't like. I suppose you could count Cradle 2 the Grave simply because it has MMA fighters in it.
