Why didn't Gordon cut the tax on fuel instead of asking OPEC to cut their prices?

A large percentage of the price of a litre of petrol [you don't want to know the price per gallon!] is Gordon Brown's Tax - why ask the oil producing countries to cut their prices? There must have been some other behind the scenes jiggery pockery - what has he sold off now to raise money for their extra £40,000 allowance for a second home in London!

  1. Because that is a short term solution unfortunately.

  2. He's a greedy bustard.

  3. I don't like how worked up people get about tax especially in england. tax is required to supply all public services and burning petrol is destroying the world and i was told in high school petrol would have run out before now I'm surpriesed it has came as a shock. Sorry to not answer your question at all and this complaint nor its subsequent companion is aimed at you senior question poster dude. and I know there needs to be people constantly investigating and gordon perhaps hasn't done the best job but i'd rather die than see someone as slimey as david cameron in charge. I wish politicians would take some responsibility and make their time in power suggesting to the leading parliament what would be best on the whole not this party hasn't done this and last time they were in power bla bla bla i like sheep.

  4. I don't know, a tax reduction would cut inflation and bolster the economy making up for any lost tax revenue.

  5. Gordon, cut tax? I said no no no. He can't do that, not when he has to employ all those co ordinating outreach co ordinators and one leegged tapdancing terrorists on pogo sticks at our expense. Go wash your mouth out with soap. Gordon cutting taxes, do you think we live in some kind of democracy. You madman.

  6. Phillip H has a very good, and real point. The whole world has been asking OPEC to cut their price. They won't, and why should they? It will just be sold to some other country that's willing to pay a bit more. Governments get way too much for gasoline tax.

  7. I self-deleted my answer after the TD & bec the real info is ignored anyway. To the person who TU'd my A thanks! I've given up bec nobody wants facts from an insider.Too many want to whine only.

06262008 OIL LEAPS TO NEARLY $139 ON OPEC COMMENTS

Oil prices jump $4.31 a barrel to $138.86 after OPEC President Chakib Khelil forecasts crude oil trading between $150-$170 a barrel in the next few months and Libya suggests the oil market currently is saturated, and that it actually "sees a possibility for a decrease in production." Greenback weakness also is aiding bulls..

  8. Spot on Guineapig.

The bible has a section where we are told to not offer to take out a splinter from onother person's eye, when there is a plank of wood in our own.

  9. These " Jokers " are not in our Real World, They fiddled the election in my opinion since  no one I ve spoken to in 5 years admits voteing for them.  Then I do live in the "overtaxed " part of his World, better than  Zimbarbwe tho,    anyone agree.   Who did vote these monkeys in ?  was it a Fax machine.

  10. The gov't makes far more money than the petrol companies and they don't want to give up any of what they think is their rightful money.  Since they base their taxes on percentages they are making more money than they know what to do with it.  The only way to keep hiding this is to complain about OPEC instead of admitting they have increased their profits 400%.  You know they won't improve the roads by 400% they'll just keep complaining they don't have enough money.

  11. Until recently - it was predominantly TAX.  It is disingenuous to pretend you can do something about the oil price when most of the cost are taxes imposed by government.  I doubt though that anybody at all is falling for this routine.

  12. To be honest! He just cannot cut any taxes! Why?He has got this country into a financial mess!He has been distributing money hand over fist to Africa!Where I believe we the (UK) are the biggest donors instead of putting money away for a 'rainy day'!In the next budget! We are in for a rude awakening because of this political cretins incompetence! The sooner they are voted out the better!

  13. Because grodon brown and his group of misfits hav no idea on how to run a country

they dont get the picture that they have failed.. well and truly and need to understand that no-one likes them

EVERY BLOODY THING is taxed to the hilts and petrol is extortionate now

its all about money for "mr brown" but he needs to realise tht if he isnt going to be overruled - he needs to listen 2 the ppl and do what is best 4 the country!!!

    *RANT OVER*
