Why didn't Hitler recall Manstein to duty (he saved the army after Sgrad), I have my own idea, what is yours?

My idea is it was a fact that Manstein was so capable and that he stood up to Hitler. And the main position Manstein took was demanding a single overall commander in chief of the whole eastern front which was more power then Hitler was willing to give anyone other then himself.

  1. I think Hitler knew Manstein was correct in his assessment, but just could not cede his control to anyone. I think the only reason he didn't execute him was so that if the n**i's lost, Manstein could keep the dream alive... notice how Manstein didn't drop the dime on the plotters, and yet, the plot failed, so maybe, just maybe, he DID dime them out... even the reich had it's political side...

Manstein was recognized as a great leader and tactician on BOTH sides of the Channel, I think Hitler knew that, and begrudgingly respected it, after all, it could have it's usefulness, if the Reich were to survive.
