Question:

Why didn't NBC interview the Olympic hurdles champion, Daryon Robles?

Daryon Robles won the 110 meter hurdles tonight and NBC only interviewed the silver and bronze medalists who were US. My brother thought it might have been because Robles didn't speak english, and I thought it might have been because Cuba and US are two countries that don't recognize each other. I wonder if there are rules about interviewing Cubans. Another possibility is that NBC thinks noone would care about him because he's not American (which is wrong for me, i would've liked to hear him), Has NBC had a history of not interviewing the winners if they're not American?

  1. NBC has a history of trying to get the winners interviewed. Case in point all of the Jamaican sprinters as well as the Russian woman pole vaulter.

It looks like to me, the at the Cuban chose not to talk to NBC or was requested by his NOC not to interview.

    Interesting question though.

    Enjoy!

  2. He speaks Spanish. They interviewed Yao Ming and Bolt and swimmer from Zimbabwe Conventry and the list goes on and on.

  3. Because NBC is nothing but flat out racist station.  Big deal the US got silver and bronze.  They did the same thing to Bolt in the 100 and 200 m.  But oh Michael Phelps wins 8 golds medal and that is all they showed.  This guys wins the 110m hurdles and lets interview to people u came in second and third because they speak english.  NBC Nothing But c**p.

  4. An television station covering an international event for a United States audience is going to tailor its coverage to suit its viewers. The stronger story as it pertains to that demographic is that competitors from that area won medals -- so that's the story it went with. The reason Yao was interviewed was because he lives and works in the United States (plays for the Houston Rockets), so he has a US connection. Bolt, although non-American, broke the world record for the event that is considered the fasted, so he became the world's fastest man. Both spoke English.

Language would also be a huge barrier if Robles doesn't speak English. There are no laws forbidding the interview of someone from Cuba, and I doubt this was the reason.

  5. American media doesn't specialize in covering athletes from other countries JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER NATION IN THE WORLD! and he doesn't speak English...

if you want to criticize look to the Chinese: they ordered the smothering of any coverage of Michael Phelps in China- basically burying their head in sand trying to ignore the greatest athlete in the history of the world.

I've lived abroad for years and have found all other countries I've lived in to be tremedous hyprocrites, racist, xenophobic and ignorant.
