Question:

Why didn't Windstream disconnect my phone and DSL yesterday?

I called them on December17th and told them to disconnect me on December 18th because that's the date I'm paid up until. They said they'd disconnect me on the 19th. I told them I'm not going to pay for another entire month's service because they can't disconnect me on the day I asked. From what I understood, they'll only charge me for one additional day.

Now here it is December 20th and I still have phone and DSL. Why haven't they disconnected me? Are they dragging their feet so they can milk as much money from me as possible?

By the way, I'm getting cable and VOIP. It will be much cheaper.

  1. Phone companies typically require you to give at least a few days, or more,  advance notice to disconnect.  Next day service would be a true miracle, not likely to happen.  Typically, they will only charge you up to the day of disconnect, not the full next month.

I recently cut the cord to my phone company and subscribed to cable with Internet.  Then, as you are thinking, I got VoIP home phone service through cable Internet.

I only subscribe to pay-as-you-go services - no contracts or commitments - I can quit and switch anytime (I actually have service with various VoIP services this way).

Just remember, most VoIP home phone services will require you to give 1 month notice to terminate your "phone number".  My services are on month-by-month basis and I must give number termination notice before the monthly "renewal date".  But, 1 month is the longest commitment I have to make.
