Why didn't anyone stop the ethnic cleansing of Georgians in Abkhazia back in the 90's?

I am beginning to understand why the Georgians hate the Russians so much .. apparently the Russians helped terrorists to equip, fund, and organise the killing, rape and torture of 30,000 Georgians in Abkhazia back in the 1990's. These terrorists subsequently overthrew (killed) the Georgian government of Abkhazia and are still in power today, and still funded by the Russians.

Warning, it is pretty gruesome and horrible.

This would be like Cuba providing military support for terrorists in Florida, USA, so that Florida could become an independent country, independent of the USA. And then after independence is established Cuba starts moving a massive number of citizens into Florida.

But instead substitute Russia for Cuba, Abkhazia for Florida, and Georgia for the USA.

Why did the world stand back and let this genocide happen? I thought it was the USA's job to prevent this sort of stuff?

Why didn't they step in?

Please let me know if I haven't got any of my facts right .. Im just trying to understand it a bit better from both sides.

Unless the U.S. can MAKE MONEY from it, THE U.S. wont get involved.  Remember Rwanda?  Darfur?  Yet, we went into IRAQ?  Dont expect anyone who cant PROFIT to CARE in this world.  The U.N. can only SAY, they cant DO much.  The U.S. disobeyed them and attacked IRAQ.  How can the U.S. say that Russia is wrong?  How can BUSH in particular say ANYthing about  attacking someone without provocation?

Russia has ALWAYS supported the separatism in Georgia and provided the conflict zones with everything, even with weapons, and ALWAYS blackmailed Georgia they would admit the independence of those conflict zones,, this has been going for years! Russia using the name of peacekeepers had no limits, was allowed to do anything they wanted. if Georgia dared to say a word ot two they blackmailed us saying they r gonna give those conflict zones independence..

TJ its a lot complicated, Iran, oil, ,, all these things play its role ,, russia is still a powerful country , providing the Europe with fuel, energy and gas, so no1 wants to have a bad relationship with Russia

The united nations does not do anything but talk and threaten and spend money.  It takes leaders with guts to actually get things done.

Why would any group give someone 17 warnings without taking any action?  Thank goodness the world had Bush to actually do what was right.

Because like everything, to little , to late. I almost think that there should be a "Moral Mercenary Army", to step in and say " Enough, fight us, and see what fighting Commandos is all about, not helpless men , women , and children, who can not defend themselves!  I will say no more.
