  1. The whole leaving the nest syndrome most mother's experience. Greek men wanted a explaination for this so they made up that myth.

  2. Sorry I don't have a link, but I've read that Cupid/Eros wasn't always protrayed as a baby/child.In fact he was an prime force created before or shortly after Aphrodite, and in oher stories he's her son.Afterall he did marry Psyche, after falling in love with her.Aphrodite was jealous of her beauty and popularity among the mortals,so she had her son shoot Psyche with an arrow of love to fall in love with the villiest man,to shame and humiliate Psyche.Eros/Cupid refused and carried her of to marry her.She was forbidden to see him in the light of day,or his face by candle light(because he was a god and she was a mortal). After a time her sisters hounded her and her own curioisity got the best of her and she unwittenly broke her promise to him.She realised he was a god and he fled from her. They were reunited after she approached Aphrodite and Aphrodite tested her with various tasks, if she succeed she could be reunited and marry her son.Which Psyche did.I'm not sure if this answers anything other than that the 'current' representation of Cupid/Eros as a baby in diapers isn't exactly what he represented originally.
