  1. Gave "it"?

Gave america to america? Gave power to it?

After the American revolution, it was shown that we had the means to defend ourselves. Fighting a battle across an ocean is hard. Letters take weeks to arrive in britain. Governing colonies is hard too. Basically, they couldnt' do anything about it.

What were they to do? They couldn't just attack us because we were becoming too powerful. Also. The reason we were bexoming so powerful was partly because of them, and was also benefitting them.

All the power that we incurred resulted from the trading that we had with them. We had raw materials, we also had factories and made items for them. By world war 1, we were less powerful from them, but because of our plans of ... shoot off the top of my head i forget their names. But basically, we traded with both the allie and the enemey supplying weapons to them and letting them incurr amazing debt. Our productionw as off the scales during that war, even though we didn't fight for them. They were getting bombarded, we were raising money. It was either the ww1 or 2 that we started giving them money in order for them to spend it back to us.

  2. Because America rose to power saving their butts from the Germans.  It was World Wars I & II that made America the global super power it is now.

  3. It was in Britains interests to have America as an ally.

It would not have been politically possible to have Canada and the United States as hostile neighbours, and the UK, like all European countries, needed North American grain.

The following century saw the rise of a world hegemony of English Speaking Peoples.

  4. The current theory is that this was a peaceful power transition due to England and America's cultural similarities.

  5. So, you think we should nuke them now?  It's a forlorn exercise, to look back with perfect 20:20 vision and say "Why didn't someone stop Hitler?", or "Why was Communism allowed to spread?".  We unfortunately DON'T have a Wayyyy-Back-When machine, but we can do things about mad tyrants NOW, like Mugabe.
