  1. i think you ask a great question...and considering i was in the play, i'm ashamed to answer...i don't know? of course, that was well over 10 years ago that i performed it. but getting to do a bit of research on a play i had long forgotten was groovey to say the least. as far as i can tell, i see no notable reason for the two of them having never gotten married. in the first scene, when the Neighbor comes to visit with the Mother, she mentions about the Bride having another suitor once, "She must have been 15 or so at the time. And he married a cousin of hers 2 years ago. No one remembers." Leonardo is also described as a brutish, laborer so it may be that the Bride's parents didn't condone it; he may have been below her class. hope this helps!
