Why didn't the tivo set up screen come on when i hooked it up?

I just got a tivo and hooked it up to my dish network 322 reciever but the tivo set up screen did not show up. What did I do wrong? I made sure they were all hooked up out to in. I have it hooked up from tv to vcr to reciever to tivo. Also do you have to have the IR Cable for it to work? I bought it thinking everything I needed was included from amazon. Yet this cable was not with it.

Usually you run two sets of cables to the TV.  One from Dish and one from Tivo.  You have to find the right video input you ran the cables to on the tv.  Just keep pushing the tv/video button until it shows up.....
