Why didn't you like Breaking Dawn?

It seems, from surfing the internet, that A LOT of people did not like Breaking Dawn, but liked all three of the other books in the series. My question is, what made BD so bad to you? I personally think it was great and the best one.

  1. Joacob imprinted on Renemsee

  2. well, there were definitely some good parts. but then, there didn't seem to be any action. i mean, the volturi just LEFT. no climactic battle like in eclipse. it wasn't the best one, but it was definitely worth the read, and things ended up the way i wanted them to.

i never actually thought meyer would incorporate s*x into the book, or a baby. it was kind of weird. i was like "did stephenie meyer really write this?" it didn't sound like her writing.

  3. It was so boring. The plot wasn't all that great. My favorite part was Jacob's perspective. The whole pregnancy thing was weird. Stephanie Meyer said vampires couldn't have a baby. So, I don't see how Edward would have impregnated her since only venom is in his body. He would most likely have killed her since he's so strong and hard. Supposedly, it was vampire s***n, but whatever. That whole baby thing and the Volturi wanting to kill them was kind of pointless. I didn't like the whole Jacob printing on Nessie thing, I expected more action to happen. I wanted the fight to happen, something! The book mostly talks about Bella's pregnancy and how everyone just watches her.  Maybe I didn't like it cause i read a spoiler prior to reading the book. Who knows. The ending sucked too.

  4. Bella was too obsessed with s*x and everything revolved around her, Edward was like a slave to her, they made Jacob a pedophile, Renesmee "Nessie" was only used as a plot device, the birth scene was disturbing, Bella can overpower the Newcomer side effects, and the all too neat happy ending. Everyone's happy.

  5. i liked it :)

  6. -- There is no point to the book.

-- There is hardly any major conflict (WHAT kind of novel doesn't have conflict?!)

-- There is barely any character development.

-- Jake's ending was morally twisted and disgusting.

-- The conflicts from the past three books were either dropped completely or too easily resolved.

    -- There is no plot.

-- There was no climax; the end was anti-climatic. What kind of author builds up to a massive fight scene then doesn't have a single fight?

-- The characters didn't act like themselves.

    -- The writing sucked.'

-- There were SO many loose ends. It was fairly obvious that Smeyer did a terrible job at planning out her series.

-- It was choppy; Some parts dragged on while other parts went too quickly. It wasn't well balanced.

-- There were SO MANY plot holes. So many things didn't make sense.

-- Everything worked out too well. The first three books led us to believe becoming a vampire was a sacrifice; but what did Bella give up? Nothing, except being human. She got to keep Charlie, Jake, all of the Cullens, AND got to have a kid. She didn't lose ANYTHING she was "supposed" to lose by becoming a vampire. It was so lame. It wasn't a "happy ending"-- it was gratification.

Basically, this book lacked everything I consider necessary within a novel in order for that novel to be considered "good". It lacked the qualities and characteristics of good writing, characters, and plots.

Lots of people accuse me of not liking Breaking Dawn because I "don't like the ending". That's not true. I had no objections to the ending (although I DO object to Jake imprinting on the Devil Spawn). I had no issues with Bella getting pregnant-- I was glad she had a kid. I WANTED her to have kids, which is why I wanted her to choose Jake. I don't have problems with the ending. I have problems with the lack of plot, the infinite amount of plot holes (Mutant Baby is one giant plot hole), and the writing. I have issues with the *way* everything happened.

This book had potential. It could have been better.

  7. Mind if I copy a past answer? (the past answer is my own!!! not someone Else's. Thats plagiarism.)

Favorites: The first chapter. The second chapter. But the wedding... it happened too fast, in a blur, (though i was willing to accept it at first, thinking thats what stephenie was going for) and it marked the beginning of the emotional detachedness of the reader. Starting there in book three, I felt nothing. the honeymoon's... well, events... the bruising. That made me wonder how that could have happened in the first place... bruise lines that traced around her body that lined up perfectly when edward only has five fingers on each hand? And though the headboard thing was funny, I did think it was over the top. And edwards refusal to do it again. That was annoying and too hard. It was like edward was torturing himself. Gah. He didnt evn seem that happy at the wedding. In eclipse, he was giddy at the very sight of the ring on her finger. Then, with the pointed baby comments in the beginning of the book and her ONLY eating eggs, i grew suspicious. Even before she started throwing up, i suspected her being pregnant. then, boom. baby. I had suspected it, but i was annoyed that it actually happened. This is STEPHENIE MEYER we're talking about, you know? She dosent pull c**p like that! Edward basically went insane. Jacob arrived. I was happy, because finally, some life was breathed into the book again! The chapter titles... amazing. They screamed jacob. And his unexpected frindship with the crazy edward was interesting, though it didnt seem out of charachter, thank god. Bella, meanwhile, has rosalie-the-psyco protecting her hormonal demon baby who crushed her ribs, bruises her, and sucks her dry of life while we have to WATCH this happen.

Edward would have done something! No way in h**l would he ever ever ever let anything kill bella! So, out of charachter there. Then, during that conversation with jacob, i knew what they had in mind... to get her to drink human blood. oh, the humanity. I was horrified the whole way through. Not dazzled. Not happy about anything, and feeling hopless and ready to throw the book on the ground and scream at it. But then, yeah, she delivered the baby, and edward had to change her... which at the part where jacob thinks hes eating her fluids... eww. yuck. Finally, weve got bellas perspective again. She's suddenl this maternal person I cant relate to anymore. Graceful. in control. a mom. beautiful. and... perfect in every way. She goes hunting as a newborn and dosent kill those hunters... that annoyed me because it seemed like, at that point, I was seeing Stepheine live vicariously through Bella. Then, the new house, and jacob, and well, everything was perfect. The thing was, bella had to give things up to be with edward. otherwise the choice is meaningless. it looses value. Reneseme was cute, and all, but i had a grudge on her for messing everything up. Then the volturi sent the letter and Alice skipped town... my favorite female charachter just leaves, and she wasnt really in the book at all, in comparison to Rosalie. And charlie... that whole meeting with him thing was ridiculous. He should have tried to shoot edward or something, just to liven things up. I didnt really understand the whole fake identity thing, though I understood that she was trying to save her daughter by having her leave with Jake. It was wrong to me. When the battle arrived, I was waiting for a battle so that I could let stephenie redeem herself. But the Volturi just run off like little babies. That didnt seem to work well. And then everything is perfect. Boom. No consiquences, just rewards. And I was left hanging in midair, like a fish on a hook. It left me empty.

The things I liked... Jacob's voice. That was amazing. And I liked all the nomad vampires coming to the cullen house. It reminded me of my family reunion. I liked the last three pages a LOT. I also liked the first two chapters.

  8. i personaly liked it a lot but i did think that it would be a lot more detailed then it was like with edward and bella's wedding. also, i didn't really like the book 2 in jacob's perspective. the only reason that i didn't like that is cuz i'm not to fond of jacob himself.

  9. I want to know the same thing i read the book and i liked it. people are just to pickey about what they want to read. just be happy she gave you a last book there was really only suppose to be 3. But still book 1 was the best. And the wedding was beautiful and funny. I am really getting mad that no one liked it.

  10. I also didn't like Breaking Dawn....I feel like though SM makes great books about vampires...she choose to make this like a extremly lovey dovey happy ending story....The only good part was when bella was preg. w/ Renesseme & When Jacob imprinted on her....the fight w/ the volturi would of been awesome...But I am happy that Jacob is happy...

    TEAM JACOB!!!

    Kels.

  11. it seemed like the characters changed idk...i didnt like bella becoming a vampire in the middle of the book

  12. Well SM couldn't meet the expectations of everyone and people were disappointed because they thought it was too crude and tasteless in parts as the messages it gives out... Like Bella getting pregnant in her teens - promoting pregnancy in teens and also the desperation Edward and Bella feel for one another - they cannot live apart and apparently this does not promote healthy relationships... But hey, its a book, fiction, but some people seem to get carried away. Personally I am not influenced by any of the themes in BD but some people thing that readers of BD may be.

Oh and also the part where Bella gets pregnant - SM goes against her word- it should not be possible for Bella and Edward to conceive a child but then again it is fiction and I love Resnesmee!

I absolutely adore BD, even though there are a few flaws in the plots!

  13. Why don't you re read the questions that have already been asked before you ask it? It's already been said a million times.

  14. I loved it, tied up there with Twilight.  My OPINION, this may not be true, is that most of the readers are young, 13-17 year old girls.  This was great when Bella was a junior in high school, everyone could relate to her.  As the series moved on, she got older and more mature.  Readers couldn't relate as well.  I understand that some readers began when the first book was released in like 2005 and have grown up with it, but some just started reading since the books have really become big this past summer or so.  A 13-15 year old girl reading BD is not going to understand or relate to it as well as an older reader.  Bella is 18 and pretty mature at this age, considering what she has gone through (remember, she was kind of the adult in her relationship with her mother).  I started reading these books this summer and I am 23 and married.  I could still relate to her in this book.  I think (remember, opinion here), that the reason BD did not do as well is that it was meant for an older audience than the other 3.  Personally, I loved it!

Also, people are upset that Bella had s*x and got pregnant, but remember, she was MARRIED! Even if she was only 18!

  15. I love the book now, but at first I did NOT like it at ALL. :(

It felt like a fan fiction (and some fan fictions are written very well) and it seemed as if it couldn't be real.

I didn't want Bella to have a kid...I'd never wanted to imagine her as a mom. It seemed too strange before.

I didn't want Jake to imprint! Not at all! I wanted him to be happy, but with me. (I know, sad fan girl)

And then Bella didn't seem the same. I mean, I knew she was going to be different when she became a vampire, but not that different. The idea of Bella having any powers was too unrealistic to me. (at first)

But then I realized that if Bella didn't have a baby, it would have been a very short and boring book. Jake wouldn't have imprinted. The Volturi wouldn't have come. The other vampires wouldn't have showed up. Bella wouln't have realized she had powers.

Now I love Renesme, and the book. And I'm not too sad about the Jake imprinting thing. :D

  16. breaking dawn was okay to me.

it wasnt horrible like people said.

but to me it wasnt the best book.

i like part three in breaking dawn the most.

    the other two parts were...errggg.

but all in all not a bad book.

i prefer twilight over all the rest.

  17. It was way too long and tedious for what it was. It could have been condensed into a much shorter book and still get the same points across. I thought I wouldn't be able to finish it because towards the end it was getting really painful and boring to read the conversations between everyone deciding what would happen. That book was really a whole lotta nothin.
