Why didnt bruce leeroy ever fight in mma?

He never fought, but Taimak (the actor who played that character in The Last Dragon) did act as an assistant referee at several of the early UFCs, probably because of his connection to Ron 'the Black Dragon' Van Clief.

Ron fought Royce Gracie in UFC IV, then became the 'International Fighting Council' commisioner, a UFC position which later died out, IIRC.

Taimak was certainly in good shape and had some training (according to his site, he was a kickboxing champion in New York), but presumably preferred to concentrate on his acting career rather than dedicate himself to the intensive training required to become a successful mixed martial arts fighter.

Bruce Lee did study "MMA" and you can see that in all of his Jeet Kun Do writings and to some degree in his movies.  

After he realized Wing Chun was succeptible to the physically stronger, larger Americans he was teaching and sparring with, he began to integrate other arts - Kali, Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Fencing, etc. into his overall training.

This is all through the "Tao of Jeet Kun Do" writings.  

If you don't want to read, just watch Enter the Dragon for evidence...he helped choreograph the fight scenes for this movie.  The very first fight finishes with a submission.

After his boxing career (1950's in Hong Kong) he didn't want to be a sport fighter...just a great martial artist.  Many of his moves wouldn't be legal in sport fighting, MMA or otherwise.  Two of the most common strikes he taught were the "bui ji" or Finger Jab (Essentially an eye poke) and n'ou tek (groin kick).  These are street fighting techniques, not sport techniques.  

Suffice to say he didn't fight MMA because he didn't choose to.
