Why didnt darwin use the term 'evolution', in his book "The origin of species"?

The word evolution has many usages.  Even when only biological evolution is meant, there are many various processes, any or all of which may be meant.

The word was open to many kinds of misinterpretation; he avoided it presumably in a futile attempt to avoid such misinterpretations.

The word existed at the time he wrote the book, but was a rarely used work, and did not yet have the meaning it now has. However, he did use the word "evolved." It was the last word in the book--but he didn't use it until an edition published a year after the first edition.

The term was applied to his findings after the book was published.

The word had a bad connotation at the time in regards to species. Transmutation was a much more common term. I think Lamarck had used the term " evolution " and had been under attack at the about the time published. Darwin wished to avoid the connection.
