I was reading a book called The Last Tsar by Edvard Radzinsky where the captors came and told the Tsar that his cousins failed to save them. pg 367 "Nicholas Alexandrovich, you relatives have tried to save you, but they have not succeeded, and we are forced to shoot you ourselves."

Is that true or just propaganda?

  1. Because George V was afraid of the political fallout that might result. At that time, the Romanovs were very unpopular, especially with World War I.

  2. I think it is true...

  3. The Romanov's were not of the chosen 8 families whocontrol and call the shots for the world.

  4. I've read other biographies as well;from biographies about Edward VII,as well as The Last Tsar,it was clear that the Romanovs were quite secretive and refused to listen to advice.Other family members thought that warning signs were quite clear and didn't particularly care about the way The Tsar and Tsarina were handling things. So what the captors said wasn't truthful.

  5. Given the degree of civil unrest, Socialism, etc. that arose during the Russian Revolution, George V felt it would be ill-advised to be seen giving refuge to Nicholas II, who was seen as being almost a dictator in his refusal to allow the consideration of a constitutional monarch in Russia. He was afraid that bringing the Romanovs to England would give Socialist agitators in Britain an excuse to cause civil unrest and riots in Britain as they had in Russia.  The British government was actually not opposed to rescuing the Romanovs -- a plan for their rescue had been created, but the subsequent Boshevik Revolution made it impossible to put into place, especially given the non-support of George VI.

  6. They were not Windsors back then.

  7. I don't think they knew that the Romanovs were going to be executed. I don't think they knew themselves until it happened. Maybe by 'relatives' they meant the people who were still loyal to the Tsar. I think the Bolsheviks executed the Tsar because they were worried that those still loyal to him would try to put him back on the throne. =]

  8. because he is a douche
