  1. Egypt, yo.

Look, just because you are ignorant of something doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.  We here in the west tend to ignore other continents, as if they had to wait for our exalted selves to bring enlightenment and civilization to them.  I had a fairly liberal world history class back in ninth grade, and we ignored Africa, except for Egypt, ignored the Americas except for the Incas, Aztecs, and Mayans (I didn't find out about Cahokia until I became a North American archaeologist), and completely neglected Australia.  That's four continents whose histories I was almost completely ignorant of, and I can almost guarantee that my class was more comprehensive than 90% of ninth grade history classes out there.

Do a google search sometime.  Societies do look different, and just because a group isn't out conquering other continents doesn't mean that they haven't built an impressive culture.  And keep an open mind- the things that we consider hallmarks of civilization aren't necessarily required for a complicated society.  A lack of writing or agriculture or a centralized government doesn't make you a barbarian.

  2. Every one beat them to it ,then the ss moved in.

  3. I think you have a narrow perception of what civilization is.

  4. Because they were not intelligent enough to do that.

Please don't think I'm racist but this is why. If they had had any intelligence they would never have allowed themselves to be enslaved either.

  5. They did. Like most civilizations they grew, declined and fell.

    Then there's Egypt of course.

  6. Benin, Timbuktu, Zanzabar, Nubia,Nok, Taureg, Sahaja, Mali, Wanabi,

Just because grat civilizations have been ignored by euro hisory centric text doesn;t mean it does not exist.

  7. Well there were a few around the sahara. Ever heard of Timbuktu? Ethiopia also developed a civilization.

I have not heard however about any sub-saharan african civilization.

  8. Nubians conquered and ran Egypt for a time.  There were several other examples but western education tends to  focus on civilizations that impacted the west.

  9. They did, Zimbabwe has the great fortress wall. The nubians established the meroitic kingdom.

  10. They did, they were just mostly in the AD's, except for the Meriotic kingoms.

  11. Indeed, look at Haiti now. Everywhere they are in majority not a lot of working is done. That makes it the more suspicious they were used as (working)slaves rather than (killing)slaves regarding the Indians.
