There were at least two that I can think of off the top of my head.  The civilization of Kush (south of Egypt)  was as impressive as Egypt's during the same time period. More recently Timbucktoo had a high level of civilization.

There can be made, a case, that much of the wisdom Europe claims was readily found in Africa when folks began to explore it.

One of the things history has shown us about "civilizations" is that civilizations fall especially those that move furtherist from nature.

Egypt, Rome, Greece and even China collapsed terribly.  "Civilizations" are based on human ego and human ego eventually fails.  Nature is the only thing that lasts.

If Africa doesn't seem "civilized" to you, it is because the people there have realized that the bigger a nation thinks they are, the harder they fall.  

The little tribes of Africa kill each other with swords and knives but the "civilized" nations are killing each other with atomic bombs and chemical warfare.  Which do you think is more civilized?  Which do you think will last longer?

Luckycup: You care to cite an example of one of those civilizations that was close to nature that didn't get conquered by one of those egotistical civilizations ?

Which western societies by the way are using nuclear and chemical weapons ? Nuclear weapons were only ever used once, and that was over 60+ years ago (twice, if you want to argue the fact that there were two targets) and chemical weapons are banned from use...
