my husband was in iraq most of the year of 2007, up until nov. since that money is tax free, do they not consider that income requirements for the rebate? the irs website says. You did not qualify for the Stimulus payment because your qualifying income was not high enough.

  1. all I know from what I read a person had to make more then 3000 $ that yr.... You need to look into it more because the way I feel our soldiers need it and deserve it more then many.. I wish you luck

added... Im sorry, I forgot... maybe if the money is tax free it might not be considered taxed income... just check into it further  talk to someone rather then read it online... maybe they can explain it better

And I do know that our men when they are over there or overseas. monies are tax free not just contractors....  Im a retired military wife as well

  2. Did you file a tax return for 07?? I think you had to file a tax return even if you didnt get any money back or have to pay in order to get a rebate check. Was your husband in the military or a contractor in Iraq??

  3. The rebate program has a bug.

Check your return.  Did you put the combat pay on the EIC line as asked?  If yes you can call or do a 1040X.  If you completely forgot the combat pay, do a 1040X.

The program was supposed to look at BOTH line 7 and the EIC combat pay line.  The program is only looking at line 7 and when it sees less than $3000, says you don't qualify.  (If either of you worked for a month, you would have listed say $2000 of income on line 7 so you could get your withholding back.)

Call 1-800-829-1040, sit on hold for an hour and ask the assistor to look at your account, confirm that you DID put the combat pay on the EIC line and ask them to adjust your account.  The adjustment can take 20-30 minutes to go through, but once it's in, may be 3 weeks away from a check.

Or, get a 1040X.  Allow 8-12 weeks to process.

    Write Stimulus at the top.

Fill it in, but skip the numbered lines.

When you get to the explanation section, write:

    "Please calculate my rebate"

"My combat pay elected for EIC was $$$"

    Send it in.

  4. That is plain wrong. All Military should get a check,in fact, they should get 10 checks.

  5. Talk to your congressman or senator about how the law was written - Dependents over 17 - such as college aged students - also did not qualify for the rebate.

The first qualification for the rebate is having $3,000 of qualifying income - since your husband's income is tax free - I guess the IRS does not consider that to be qualifying income.

Depending on your 2008 situation, you may qualify for the rebate on your 2008 tax return.  If you did not get the rebate based on your 2007 tax return, there will be a second chance to qualify on your 2008 tax return - I have not seen any forms, so I do not know how they will handle this in 2008.

  6. since a contractor in Iraq gets paid a h**l of alot of untaxable income way should you get 1?
