Question:

Why do 911 calls from cell phones get re-routed so much?

I had a very aggressive driver on the highway and I was between towns. I was picked up by the town that I just went though and was re-routed, by the operator, to the town I was entering. My problem is that this maniac could have caused a serious wreck by the time that I could have talked to somebody.

Why can't the 911 operators handle calls from cell phone users and inform dispatch of another area if necessary? Cell phone users can't really chose which tower they are picked up on.

  1. it is called satelite tranmissions....duh.....they reroute to a more centralized RFD to relay the call to a local division which may be of EFFECTIVE assistance.

  2. Your point has some validity but it is better to get information from you up to the second - so if the driver turn or stops - your information to the officers on the street is current and up to the second - not possible relaying info to another 911 center.
