Not all Africans are as you describe I'm sure you know. If you take a minute and think about it a wide nose would allow for more air intake and would be great for physical activity especially running. Two places we look at on the face are the eyes and mouth. So, those two areas give a great deal of nonverbal information. Also, it has been said that the lips are suggestive of private parts and gives one a certain idea toward reproduction. That's why Hollywood stars are getting injections in their lips.

Actually, this question should be, "Why don't Caucasians have  wide noses and bigger lips?"...

And the answer is, that unlike hominins that evolved near to the Equator, Caucasians who developed in colder regions, naturally selected a longer nose, to warm air, before it entered the lungs, and thinner lips were a protection from frostbite!

Wider nostrils, cool the lungs more quickly!

Lip tissue, like genitalia, contracts when it becomes cold...
