Why do Americans always make us english out to be so s****.?

Whenever theres an english person in a film they are always speaking with a posh accent and act really stuck up. Lol. Why is this?

u know...im really not sure why our movies do that so much. ive always wondered that too 'why is the rich person always speaking with the british accent!' i find it kind of annoying bcuz its so stereotypical of characterization.

It's a common stereotype that the Americans have of us; that we're all snooty tea drinkers! Just like lots of British people think that all Americans are overweight and stupid I guess. It's the same with everything, there will always be stereotypes and cliches!

personally. i think its cause we can't do the accent that well. so it comes off s****.. And most people haven't been to England so they dont know...just a guess

Australians do this, too.  I think that it's 60% jealousy that the English can speak better than we can and 40% good humour due to the fact it can be fun to emulate another's sound no matter what age you are.

I live with with them You must 1st put them in their place and let them know y'all not going to take any c**p off them Than y'all get alone fine.They are however very concerned with how others view them Two Brits and I were in Asia they put this c**p food in from I us They said it would not be polite not to eat ''I'm not eating this c**p'' They were sick for days

We are pretty good at stereotyping people ourselves though! lol. Think about it.... frog's, spik's, jock's, paddy's, taff's, yank's, c***k's, k***t's and yid's, to name but a few(of the more '''kind''' names we've given people. All have a characature associated with them.

Frog - French, snooty, garlicky, arrogant?

Paddy - oirirish, thick, fighter's, rough?

Yid - Jewish, secretive, rich, tight, big nose?

It's all bollox! The world has become a very much smaller, more accepting and interracial place now, due to travel, communication's and most of all, the internet. The stereotype is 'old' but the imagery has remained. People will get bored and forget it, but celebrate your uniqueness, because at the rate the world's immigration is going(too fast - the reason ghetto's, religious and racial fear, and terrorism, all have a foothold in most free societies! Especially here in Britain)

I don't know how old you are? But, I'm 35. I could not have imagined, at 10/15 years old, that so many different nationalities, religions and culture's would be able to switch on a screen and enter into a civilised, friendly(or not!) chat, and give answers in person, to a question like yours!

Well that certainly isn't always the case but I know what you mean. I think a lot of Americans view the English as very proper. Look at your Queen compared to our president. One has class and the other is a jackass hillbilly.

i dont think the english are snobs, btu the americans can sometimes be slobs. they are so laid back and don't give a c**p, but the english seem much more polite and formal, so they assume they are snobs
