Why do Americans only visit Southern Germany?

I'm just curious, why is it that Americans only seem to be interested to see Munich, the Neu Schwanstein castle and Heidelberg. Germany has many more cities and things to offer, why do you only know and prefer those places?

  1. Because all Americans are Neo-n***s at heart and want to see the area of Germany that spawned Hitler's fanclub.

    Plus, Northern Germans are a******s.

  2. I'm American, and I have spent 9 days in Germany, but I have never been to Munich, the Neu Schwanstein Castle, or Heidelberg.  In fact, I probably only spent 1 hour in all of Bavaria.  And I have little interest to do more exploring there.  I want to see the parts of Germany less visited by others first.  I love central Germany to an extreme.  I haven't been to northern Germany much yet, but the parts I have been to are lovely.  To me, central Germany is charming, with it's rolling hills, and small cities, and towns placed in the valleys.  It's so historical to, and I love that.  I also really enjoy going to parts of the former DDR.  It seems so undiscovered, and so beautiful.  In fact, I would say that Thuringia is my favorite place in this world to be.  A wonderful state!

I'm going back to central area in a few weeks.  I land in Cologne, then I'm traveling to Leipzig, and Dresden, and possibly back to Berlin.  I can't wait.  Hopefully, I'll be able to live there soon after I graduate from college :)

  3. One of the main reasons has already been given: the south is where the US army bases are, many people grew up hearing their parents talk about what it as like there and later wanted to find out for themselves.

A second reason is that southern Germany is more traditional and more rural than other areas (by rule of thumb at least, of course there are rural aras elsewhere and dynamic big cities in the south, too). And these traditions is what German immigrants brought to the US generations ago - the oompah music, food that's heavy on sausages and stuff, and traditions strongly influenced by the church, that wore off in other parts of Germany as secularisation progressed. But in the south, you can still experience the idea of Germany established in the collective US consciousness by the immigrants.

  4. Bavarias  Sie ab Super kühlen oohh yaah!

  5. They want to drink good beer

  6. The main reason why is that there are so many american bases down there. So the locals are used to having americans there. Up north they aren't as friendly to "outsiders" and even aren't very nice to the southern Germans. But those areas are the main tourist attractions too just because of the history behind them. Berlin has a lot, but you have more down south. Plus you will have an easier time finding help if needed just because the use of English down there in southern Germany is so common.

  7. Southern Germany seems more....Ah........German.

  8. Most the Americans living in the South. Another Bases are closed exempt few in South West.

  9. coz we dont really know about the other places.. thanks for the stereotype

  10. I´com frome Germany (east Germany) and I think that Bavaria is the best German federale state and I love Munich, the "Oktoberfest" and also the over places there. There are many interesting thinks there and the Bavarias are funny people. :o)

  11. I think it all depends on the person. I agree, a lot of people seem to want to go to Munich, etc. and so do I.

But I've got a whole list of places I want to go to in Germany.

    .

I think most Americans just don't really know that much about the country, and Munich just happens to be one of the few places they do know about.

  12. hello, as with any traveler,  the sights unseen are something to behold also.Only a endless bank account could allow you to enjoy the splendor of Germany , the roads less traveled ,that's where it's at.

  13. Probably to do with the density of US Airforce bases in that area. Getting a direct flight to Frankfurt is easier than say Hannover or Bremen.

  14. That's where the american occupation zone was, hence do some americans confuse bavaria with germany.
