Why do Americans want to visit other countries?

I don't understand why people cross the oceans to visit dangerous places like Asia or rundown places like Europe. All Asia has is poverty and Europe has is ruins only. America has the best of everything life has to offer. The rest of the world is actually a dangerous place I heard. That's why I don't intend to go beyond our shores.

All asia has is poverty?  That would be half true if you were living over sixty years ago.  Maybe a third true.

You can find dirt and poverty everywhere, including at home, but as you will see if you ever travel to these far away lands, some are very rich, some are poor, and all of them give you a different perspective when you get home.  You'll learn a lot from visiting, and you'll feel good knowing more places and what they are realy like, instead of the nonsense you hear.

America had the best of some things life had to offer in the 1950s ... for some people.  You really need to update your knowledge.  Start with a week in Tokyo, and head over to Singapore.  Either of those places are way safer than America anyways.  

Most people elsewhere view America as the most dangerous place around, with horrible scammers, criminals, incredibly giant prisons, and murder by the buckeload.  If you look at the statistics, it's true!

I think you'll enjoy travel quite a bit, actually.

Those ruins are history, plus other countries have some things we don't and a different culture than we do. It's all about expanding your horizons.

know your facts, i've been to europe six times and they are more sanitary than we are, in italy u can't touch the food in the grocery store people working there touch it or u HAVE to wear a plastic glove, and all the old stuff is called history. I love to travel it broadens the way u think may be u should too

you think america is safe? when kids go on a shooting spree in the mall or in schools? when a girl is killed just because an angry driver almost hit her? come to europe, yes there is violence, but currently I feel safe cause I know people arent so obsessed with guns. and ruins are a part of our history. well if your ancestors would be building castles in america, then I think you would make them a tourist attraction too.

and dont listen about france and england too much, there are plenty of other countries in europe too. some can be really safe, like in central europe.

I'm going to north america, but sometimes I'm wondering what will I see there, you dont have that much culture. probably I'll get a heart attack on a very high skyscraper. I'm really thinking if you have any historical buildings like you can find in south america. maybe I'm going to see the modern world :]

and that answerer is right, in europe its really rude to touch the fruits or vegetables with bare hands. if you touch it, buy it. well I dont mind if you touch the bananas or oranges, but its not really nice when people touch tomatoes and apples with bare hands.

I have travelled widely in America, Asia and Europe.  America has more poverty than a few Asian countries I have been to (and some of them are cleaner and safer too).

Europe has many gorgeous old buildings - most of them have been beautifully restored.  But you wouldn't know that.

Ignorant, narrow minded buffoons like you give Americans a bad name.  Stay at home - travel would be wasted on someone like you.  I'm sure you couldn't cope without a MacDonalds or a Dunkin Donuts on every corner anyway.

You probably would have no comprehension of this but a lot of people who have visited America are really grateful they don't have to live there and a lot of people would consider your country a lot more dangerous than their own.
