Question:

Why do Arabic soldiers (good bad or indifferent)celebrate by shooting their semi-auto weapons into the air?

This is not intended to be offensive. I am just curious because I even heard it referred to as tradition. Is there some deeper meaning?

When you have an AK and want to loudly celebrate, it seems the most obvious choice to fire it. The problem is when they don't take care to slightly slant the projection so the bullets don't come raining back down on them.
