Why do CAT2 charts have a DA/DH with a RA, but CAT1 approaches just have a DA/DH without RA?

  1. RA or radar altitude/altimeter is not required for a CAT 1 approach since it will be to higher minimums (usually 200ft DH).

    The extra precision required to go to 100ft for a CAT 2 approach requires the use of a radar altimeter (and precise measurement of the ground level below the glide slope at DH).
