Question:

Why do Caribbeans have more eastern values and not America?

Their values seem to be more Eastern than Western. For example they seem to be more family orientated and a lot of them I know, their parents push them a lot in terms of academics like a lot of Asian families. But the Caribbean islands were only invaded by Europe. So why doesn't America have values like that?

  1. Because we're big doo doo dummy's

  2. that's just the way it is here(born and still living in trinidad). it's just how our parents have grown us up. i always wonder how we didn't turn out like americans because we have similar histories.

  3. You know that is a good question, but I also think it also has something to do with a lot of people's financial disposition within the Caribbean. Here's my theory and I might or might not be right.

The majority of Caribbean islands except for Haiti got independence long after the United States did, so what happened was that since most of the island are majority black, up until the 70s/80s most blacks in the Caribbean especially darker skinned people didn't have very good job opportunities. So, when these opportunities were open to them a lot of them began to take advantage of it and push to reach further in life.

It's sort of like some of these Asian people you were talking about. Some of the places where some of these people come from are very poor or war torn or whatever (not all the time). So a lot of the times pushing ahead academically is the way out and it becomes a part of their culture.

I hope this partly answers your question.

  4. Did you know that a lot of Chinese men went to the Caribbean and married Black Caribbean women? Because the Early Chinese working in America could not return home, there aren't many Asian women in the U.S. because it's almost impossible for them to get here, and they were not allowed to love Whites. So they turn to the Caribbeans.

You can see some Caribbean people with Chinese surnames even today such as Jamaica.

  5. The values of the Caribbean peoples are Caribbean - not eastern and not western. There are many nations within the Caribbean, it is not one homogeneous mass. That would be the same as saying that the English have the same values as the Turkish because they are both in Europe.

America is built on capitalism, with all that that entails. Malcolm X said that "Money is their god, and their religion is making it". When love of money overtakes love of fellow man, everyone suffers.

  6. Because America thinks it knows everything. the only thing they probably got right was separating from Britain but after that it seems as though in their pursuit of becoming great we gave up alot of good things.

These days we allow yes ALLOW our kids to not put forth the proper effort and veg out in front of tvs and computers til their brain rots and then blame it on the school system which though it is partially to blame is not completely at fault. We then blame their lack of learning and being attentive and bad behavior on mental disabilities and instill standardized testing so that 'no one gets left behind' which only succeeds in further dumbing down our youth.

We allow our young to run rampant through society with no respect for themselves or others and are content to say 'times are changing' no we've all become wusses and are too afraid to beat that as* when that's all they really need is to have some sense knocked into them.

SO i guess my point is that even though we were invaded my the same people, they overthrew their ruler but then learned to live alongside them and preserve the good of their way of life meanwhile we threw everything away and opted to start from scratch but have let alot of good teaching fade to the background instead of evolving.
