Why do Catholics call themselves Christians?

But my christian friends are saying that Catholics are not christians because they have a different form of worship, different books and even prays to a different deity?

So, who is speaking the truth?

sorry guest. But Catholics are Christians. We believe in getting into heaven through not only  our works.. But we also believe that we must have faith. Protestants believe that they only have to say I accept Christ in my life and thats it. No matter what they do from then on they will allways be saved. We also pray to God and only God. The diffeence between non catholics and catholics is that non catholics believe once someone has died thats it they are dead. rotting in the ground until christ comes back. Catholics believe that people when they die go straight to heaven or h**l. And if you are in heaven then you can hear and see what we do here in the land of the living We do not pray to them. We know that they are nothing but human. They have no powers. No ability to approve  our prayers All we do is ask them to pray for us. Same as when a non catholic ask their father or mother to pray for them. Are they making Gods out of their parents? It seems to me Guest11711448 that you're the one who doesn't know any better. Catholics are not Christians. If Catholics were Christians they would believe exactly what Christians believe. Most Catholics call themselves Christians because they honestly don't know any better. Catholics are concerned with getting to heaven through their good works on earth. Christians know that the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. Committing your life to following Jesus and accepting him as your personal savior and living your life for him. Christians pray to God and only God. Catholics pray to Mary for some kind of extra help which is wrong. Praying to Mary does nothing to your benefit. Do not have any other gods before Me, God clearly states. Praying to Mary is creating a god.
