Question:

Why do Collingwood get treated so special?

They only had to travel interstate five times during the whole of the 2007 season. That is not even one match for each of the non-Vic teams in the competition.

Plus they played something like 10 out of their last 13 games at the MCG. Special treatment or what?

No wonder they did reasonably well - they were competing against teams who had to travel & play on away grounds week after week.

I refer to them as the Koalas - because they are a protected species.

  1. Ever heard of Eddie Maguire?? He is a major reason why they get treated so well.. Plus they are probablly the club that gets the most publicity (behind West Coast), and even though it isn't good publicity it still draws attention to the game...

  2. they get treated well because they are the most successful footy team Australia has for the last 100 years

  3. One point is that all the teams want to play Collingwood at the MCG for the payday. That is what Geelong did this year, could have played Collingwood at Colonial, but only 53,000? seats. Instead, didn't they have over 80,000? Only thing is, each club should be required to play a minimum eight games away from their home ground. If that means that two Vic teams have to play each other at Darwin, Canberra, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Hobart, Bendigo, so be it. Also, a Colonial team or an MCG team, playing at the other venue does not count.

  4. Apart from all the exotic species treatment, and TV coverage, Collingwood have fallen down badly when, unlike other AFL clubs who promote the players by photographing them looking like Greek gods; all Collingwood have got is

"Straughanie" This is not always a good marketing tool when promoting a club. The Collingwood players must get pissed off when Straughanie uses their gym equipment for his own TV exposure.

  5. I think all Melbourne based clubs receive special treatment from the AFL

  6. Its all to do with the mighty dollar ...that Eddie and the Mighty Magpies can make for the AFLand other clubs  ......They get ragged and bagged day in day out , but its the other clubs who apply to the AFL to play them at the G.     A few yrs back the Tigers had a pre arranged deal to play the Pies the first game of each season.   ...Each year the deal was to  take it turn about to keep gate takings, Tigers got the "first" gate ..then the next year when it was to be Collingwood's gate , the Tigers reneged on the deal and went to the AFL wanting  to share!.    Collingwood  apropiately then refused to agree to any future fixture deals with them ..       "Every" interstate club wants to play  the Pies at the G , same reason now why Sydney play them at telstra and not SCG..... Surely my friend you are not totally nuts , or just out from under a rock ....so let me ask you ?     If you were going to personally "pocket" the takings from a game Collingwood plays in, would you want 80, 000 ppl at the G or 15,000 at  LAUNCESTON ...I think the answer is obvious . Stop Ragging the PIES ..its actually COLLINGWOOD who are  "NOT" treated special at all, if the truth be known.      They are always in a "major" game ,week after week, like Anzac day Mid week then have to front up with less preparation ..for their next blockbuster !      Have ya ever stopped to wonder why the Roos .....wearing a similar jumper to Collingwood, 1 different colour, both play "home "at the G,and since the 70's the Roos have won 4 flags Collingwood 1 but The Pies can fill the G the Roos can't ?.      Its because of ppl like you, everytime someone rags the PIES its making them gain more EXPOSURE!...and then of course they have Australia wide FAME because of the "Colliwobbles", brilliant marketing by one of their own club legends Lou Richards, it just cant be matched !

  7. Well we will get to see your point this week.

Apparently they are in big trouble over them using the Victorian Police shooting range.

Just heard this morning so we will see what thats all about and if they will get away with it scot free.
