Why do England, Ireland, Scottland, and Wales compete in the Olympics as Great Brittian? ?

  1. maybe it's because Ireland, Scotland, and Wales were once part of England.



    but for a side note, i could have sworn I saw the Irish athletes represent only Ireland during the openning ceremony.  


  2. Wales, Scotland and england compete as team GB and Ireland compete as their own country Ireland.

    I suppose they compete as Great britain because if we were separate countries we wouldn't win as much. Putting us all together makes us look stronger to other countries.  

  3. Why wouldn't they?

    It would be like Texas and Rhode Island competing independently.
