  1. You get more miles to the gallon. Us Europeans (well us Brits) pay over £1 ($2) per litre for petrol so at this point we do not care about the environment, more about saving money.

  2. correct old diesels pollute more new diesels do not, but emissions is less in europe, the only place in the world that actually needed  emissions is any country that is due west of a mountain range. if there were no mountains there owuld be no pollution problem. there is a jet stream that goes around the world, but because of the mountains there air goes over some places such as california. basicly becasue of the low amount of mountains in europe and the path of the jet stream they dont worry about emissions control.  every car in perfect condition after 1995 only puts out three gases into the atmosphere. o2 oxygen, co2 carbon dioxide, and co carbon monoxide, well none of these gases will harm us unless we are in a non ventalated area. yes cars also produce noX oxides of nitrogen but only if something is wrong with the vehicle.

2010 all european manufactures are releasing a full line of diesels vehicles expecting over 30 miles to the gallon with much greater performance then the jettas turbo diesel.

  3. because they want to make people like you jelous.   you can't buy as many "COOL" diesel cars here in ;the US  as you can in europe.  they have a better fuel economy and the newer diesels dont pollute as much as you think.   those are real cars  diesels,  not the boats that are on sale here in the US (ex.  Cadillacs,  Buick,  and all the other boats that old people drive)

  4. diesel is more efficient that gasoline... That is why Europe uses it more...

  5. what do you base your pollution numbers on ?  fuel oil is cheaper to refine , and most cases more efficient

  6. diesel engines are about 15% more fuel efficient...that is why in $7/gallon Europe it is preferred to gasoline
