Why do Finns call themselves Suomi, France - Ranska and Russia - Venaja. And where the word "Finn" come from?

  1. Finish people use completely different language from the rest of the Europe (this same language group  Finno-Ugric is only used by Estonians and Hungarians) this makes their names for countries completely different from what other languages use (Just to let you know Hungarians call themselves Magyar - no where near our well known Latin based Hungary). Finland is directly connected to the Swedish name for this region and because Swedes were ruling Finland for some time this happened to be more popular all over the world than they own name Suomi.


  2. We (serbs) also Hungary call Magyar.
