  1. Its part of their religion. Like how Jewish men have to wear Yamakas or wear a prayer shawl.

  2. Men are apparently too weak to control their own urges, so women pay the price for it, by having to cover up so some poor man won't get turned on and lose control.

  3. You don't wear burqas, you eat them.

  4. Remember watching "Star trek" when growing up?  How different civilizations have different mannerisms.  Who cares, that's their society; I don't won't to see 50,000 American boys die fighting to change them.

Hey let's put 50,000 American feminists in the field to go over to Iraq and fight them...just a thought..

  5. Well, first off, fundamentalists don't ask, they DEMAND that women wear burqas, on threat of violence. For a woman, having even your face exposed can be punishable by law under regimes like the Taliban, and these punishments can be terrifyingly harsh and barbaric.

Fundamentalist Muslims believe women are inferior because they claim it says so in the Quran and that the Quran explicitly orders women to cover  themselves from the eyes of men. This is a perverted form of sexual morality taken to great extremes. It is believed that the sight of a woman automatically causes desire in a man and that women's bodies are temptations that distract men from thoughts of Allah and give them what Catholics would call "unclean" or "impure" thoughts. Women on the other hand are often not credited with having any sexual desire of their own.

So the burqa is an example of how these fundamentalist groups control women and keep them in their lower place in the social hierarchy. This garment is deliberately oppressive.

I am not stating any of this from a "feminist" perspective. I am only describing what the fundamentalists themselves have said. They believe treatment they themselves will gladly define as cruel is justified by their belief system.

Watch the movie "Kandahar" for a haunting depiction of Taliban ruled Afghanistan.

  6. A form of repression maybe? Because their women are ugly? What ever the reason it seems pretty archaic these days-

  7. they suffer from praipism and think that everyone has the same- every little thing stimulates them and their kind

  8. Why does the west ask of a husband to give half his posessions to the ex wife in the even of divorce ? Nobody knows, its just the way it is.

  9. When the king of Saudi Arabia visit the queen of England, he wears the same cloths his women wear, only the color and quality of clothing is different.  If you observe closely, you will find all arabs wear this all covering cloth.  The head gear is slightly different for men.  Women wear black and men wear white.

Scientifically the reasons behind this dress is very sound.  Men who lived most of their time outdoors need cloths that reflect maximum light and heat.  Women who stay indoors need color that radiate the maximum heat from bodies.  Also during sand storms etc, its better to cover up in deserts.

Now look at what happened to women's clothing and men's clothing in cold climates.  Due to liberation or some nonsense, women started exposing their body to the maximum possible.  Go to any air port in western world.  You will come across teens and young women in short shorts and micro skirts.  They do this only to arouse sexual desires in men and they do it because they can do it and get away with it.  There are laws and rights and previlges to assure women can safely move around with little clothing in any cultured society today.  There is no rational basis for this.

Fundamentalists ask islamic women to wear Burqua because they know this.

I am a Hindu, I am not a fundamentalist and I have nothing against a woman wearing string bikini in public.  But I understand fundamentalist muslims and what they preach.

  10. they had sexual liberation and feminism at the peak of their culture, it was very hedonistic but they did not have complex divorce laws, birth control, child support, paternity testing, social welfare or any of the systems we use to prevent society falling apart and they had a societal crash.

the people turned to the religious for advice and the covering up of the women was one of the strategies they put in place in an effort to curtail hedonism and get god to forgive them for enjoying drunken orgies and passing the opium pipe round to much.

    EDIT, nice bigotry sassy, feminist?
