It generates more pollution in production than it saves. It raises food costs and it damages your car.

  1. There is no such thing as a "Global Warming Worshiper" so there is no answer to your question.

If what you really meant (but were somehow unable to restrain your childish name-calling mannerisms) was "Why do people who accept Global Warming as a real threat love Ethanol Fuel?", then the answer would be "we don't".

Ethanol was, IMO, a PR stunt by politicians to make it look like they were really caring for the environment and now they were "doing" something about it.  Electric or Hydrogen cars, relying on electricity generated by clean renewable power plants, are a far better solution to both global warming and the oil price problem.

  2. We don't.  It also takes more energy to produce than you get out of it.  It's a complete boondoggle, a distraction.

    Carlin also said

"The entire western world is a freak show and in the US we get a front row seat."

    edit:

I remember.  Bush gave a speech on switchgrass.  The money went to the corn lobby.  Real prosperity will come when we have a sustainable economy.

  3. I guess Dana doesn't remember President Bush calling for more switch grass, but I do.  I think they don't like ethanol.  They just want to use it as a club for a while.  In fact, if you could provide unlimited clean energy, they would certainly find something they don't like about that.  They seem to dislike consumerism, prosperity, happiness, and freedom (I feel those down arrows coming; the truth hurts).

  4. Like George Carlin said, environmentalists don't give a s*** about the planet.. They just want to live in a clean place.

  5. Different issues entirely.   Ethanol is an attempt to substitute domestically produced fuel for oil for economic reasons.

Both gas and ethanol contribute to CO2 in the atmosphere.

  6. That's a strawman argument.

For one thing, nobody 'worships' global warming.

For another thing, few environmentalists support corn-based ethanol.  In fact, it's George Bush who's pushing hard for its use to be increased.

However, there are forms of ethanol which would benefit the environment which environmentalists do support, such as from switchgrass and algae.

  7. This is a misconception. Ethanol fuel from corn is a big scam meant to enrich the wealthiest farmers and the megaglom seed companies. Any environmentalist worth his salt know this. Bush and his buddies are not really fighting against the environment on this front cause its big BIG business.

Certain bio-fuels actually can be helpful. Bio-fuel from sugar cane, widely used in South America, is almost three times more efficient than corn. Also bio-fuels from switchgrass (in the great plains), Jathropha (in Africa and India), algae (Israel), and wood cellulose are vastly more efficient choices. Corn can actually burn more fossil fuels in its production than it creates. This is why Big Oil and their government cronies are pushing it so hard. It needs to be resisted hard and fast before the food crisis worsens. Not only is the fossil fuel industry responsible for global warming and other environmental degradations but now is indirectly linked to starvation via especially the over use of corn.

Corn is subsidized more than any, I mean any other crop in the United states. This is not about a hand up or even a hand out but about corruption of the worst kind. It makes me angry and if Americans and the rest of the world is awake it should make them angry too.

  8. Climate change is a money and power grab scheme by the bottom feeder politicians and power brokers. It's nothing to do with ecology and everything to do with money.

Con artist and politicians (here unnamed, but you may call him "Mr. Environment") have enriched themselves on this issue, taking home Oscars, Nobel Prizes and millions of dollars. Meanwhile, evangelical leaders are setting up their flocks for extreme fleecing by leftist politicos who will speak with great charm in the appeal for Christian votes by talking in glowing, biblical-sounding terms about "being good stewards of God's creation."

Here is truth about global warming:

Global warming is one-half of the climatic cycle of warming and cooling.

The earth's mean temperature cycles around the freezing point of water.

This is a completely natural phenomenon which has been going on since there has been water on this planet. It is driven by the sun.

Our planet is currently emerging from a 'mini ice age', so is

becoming warmer and may return to the point at which Greenland is again usable as farmland (as it has been in recorded history).

As the polar ice caps decrease, the amount of fresh water mixing with oceanic water will slow and perhaps stop the thermohaline cycle (the oceanic heat 'conveyor' which, among other things, keeps the U.S. east coast warm).

When this cycle slows/stops, the planet will cool again and begin to enter another ice age.

It's been happening for millions of years.

The worrisome and brutal predictions of drastic climate effects are based on computer models, NOT CLIMATE HISTORY.

As you probably know, computer models are not the most reliable of sources, especially when used to 'predict' chaotic systems such as weather.

    Global warming/cooling, AKA 'climate change':

    Humans did not cause it.

    Humans cannot stop it.

  9. No one worships global warming, you either accept one set of scientists or you accept a different set of scientists.

Environmentalists are against corn based ethanol.

Ethanol has a 1.3 energy conversion ratio. For every gallon of petro fuels used to grow it it produces 1.3 gallons of ethanol.

The use of high nitrogen fertilizers destroys waterways and is creating a massive dead zone in the gulf of Mexico.

It does damage your car if your car is not equipped to use it properly.

The current food price spike is not due to ethanol, but the price spike could be better mitigated if the land that was being used for ethanol was being used for food. More importantly, the food spike could be better dealt with if agriculture wasn't such a centralized and industrialized industry. But that's a whole separate issue.  :)

Anyway, if you think that environmentalists support corn based ethanol, you've fallen victim to someones scam. Could be the media, or agribusiness, or just anti environmental jerk bags.

  10. It’s difficult to put up a barrier between ethics and greed.

  11. Because they are dumber than a sack of rusty hammers!

There isn't enough land or water in the USA to produce the grains/corn/beans necessary to keep our cars running.

Hydrogen produced from solar farms in Nevada,Utah, and Wyoming is the answer.

  12. It is inefficient and starves the third world?

  13. Even if ethanol had on other problem, converting crop land to fuel production is genocidal. The world has trouble growing sufficient food now. Any reduction in food production causes people to die. Every acre converted cause 1 (or more) death per year.
