Why do Hooters girls expect you to tip them ridiculous amounts?

I ate $15 worth of food today at Hooters and my server got mad because I only gave her a $3 tip. That's ridiculous! I always thought tips were optional, given because the customer felt the service was good, not something to be expected! It seems that at Hooters giving anything less than a $5 tip is looked down upon no matter how little you eat or drink. I see guys giving these girls $20-30 tips and can only think "how stupid can you people be? She's not gonna have s*x with you just cause you tipped her way too much." As a result of these idiot guys, it seems that those of us smart guys now have to tip ridiculously high amounts or we are somehow being stingy. Is this the correct assumption? If not, what is?

Well I tip them more when I stay to watch a whole game because it takes up a table where they could have gotten other patrons in the amount of time you were there.... Other than that I certainly understand where your comming from.

Maybe, because they are all flashing their b***s at you and they want you to pay for that!

Or it could just be that they are trying to put their selves through college!!!!!!!! But I doubt it.

Why do you give a flying sh*t what they think of you?  Like you said, you ain't never gonna bang them.

Of course, they may spit in your wings if you continuously leave less than $5.  Solution is to stop going to Hooters.  If you don't want to do that, and you want reasonably untainted food, fork over the cash.

Hooters is for "Family" Dinning, not  a strip club.  Maybe it was just that waitress?  Don't feel bad or intimidated.

I think they probably think that since they're dressed skimpy you pay to see that in addition to them serving you. I agree with you! They're not strippers, so they shouldn't get stripper tips! And  scantly clad girls aside, their wings are pretty darn good!

I work as a Hooter's Girl down south and we don't make anywhere near $500 for an eight hour shift. Most girls working a double shift (open-11pm ish) are lucky to take home $200, and that's for a 12 hour day. Don't get me wrong, that's still really good money, but there's other days where I've worked an 8 hour shift and made $11 (it was slow and people just weren't tipping). I think your tip was plenty (you left 20%, which is more than a lot of people can say... honestly, I wish everyone I served tipped that well).

And the other girl was right, we're not allowed to discuss our tips with customers- no complaining about tips we'd received that night and most definatly not complaining about tips you may or may not have left us!! Next time you go in, simply request not to be seated in her section!

Tips are always an option. Your $3 tip was sufficient enough. I always tip a minimum of two or three dollars. I work in the Food and Beverage Industry and it is customary to tip fifteen percent. I wouldn't worry about how much other people tip their waitresses. Tip whatever you feel comfortable with. But remember, waitresses  really do live off their tips as the hourly wage is a mere pittance.

Cos maybe she's lowly paid and most of the income comes from tips? Think about how much or little an hour she earns?

And why are you eating at Hooters anyway?

When I go I always take my sisters (4) lol, I pay the bill they tip we haven't had any bad complants we always get along. Also we try and go to a new one at least once a year. We have been to about 29 so far. Long ways from all of them but we have lots of fun.

If she was like that, you should have took your tip back and not give her any at all then talk to the manager. sometimes i don't tip at all when the service is bad or the server give me attitude because it ruins a good day or evening.

Don't worry sometimes i only tip a dollar or two, 5 is way to much to me, i have bills to pay too, their food is freakishly expensive isn't that enough, so don't feel bad, hey maybe her shirts too tight lol :)

I am a Hooters girl in MD, and first and foremost; we are never allowed to discuss tips with customers. We're not strippers or escorts so tipping is definently optional. You should have spoke to management about the girl and Im sure that she would have been reprimanded for her actions. Yes we do indeed work off of tips because waiters make an average of 4.00 an hr. YES THATS ALL! But we can never demand a larger tip than is offered to us.
