Question:

Why do I always develop spots when I use liquid foundation?

I usually use mousse foundation as it doesn't give me spots, but I recently got a liquid one and found it gives me spots when I use it. This happens with all liquid foundations I use but not when I use mousse foundation. I use make-up remover when I have make-up on, and use cleanser, toner and moisturiser daily. It's also not because it is cheap foundation as it was quite dear. Could it just be because I have sensitive skin and if it is any recommendations for liquid foundations for my skin type?

Thanks :)

  1. You need to wash your face first then moisturiser AND THEN put the foundation on!

  2. I don't know to be honest!!

It might just be that type of foundation.

i use mac it's really good and as long as you take it off you should be fine!

Also make sure your not taking away all the oils off your face as this will cause it to dry out!

  3. Using liquid foundation clogs up your pores as its quite heavy. Mousse foundation is light and airy so lets your skin breathe, so that could be why you get spots. Instead of using cleanser, use a face scrub/exfoliater as that will deep cleanse your face, and unblock your pores of your daily foundation.

  4. it's most probably oil based- use powder instead.

  5. I would definitely say you've got sensitive skin towards liquid foundation. It could just be down to the consistency of the foundation. To be honest If the mousse foundation is ok then I'd carry on using that, you don't want to irritate your skin with something that doesn't agree with it!

If you do want to use a liquid one, try one with natural products in it. I have eczema and dermatitis and I use maybelline true match foundation. Its really moisturising so it's extremely good for your skin!

  6. Liquid foundations clog your pores, which will cause you to break out because your skin cant breathe.

It just means that mousse foundations suit your skin better.

    Stick with those.

  7. I've been there. The trick of using foundation is as you suggest, cleanse, tone and moisturize. Very important. Make sure you keep the skin clean. Then use a primer, about 5 mins after you apply your moisturiser. It will form a barrier between the foundation and your skin. I use Smashbox Photofinish primer. excellent stuff. It also helps to keep the colour true and keeps it fresher looking on your face.  The other thing to do, is to use a foundation that is hypoallergetic, (has been tested not to cause allergies) and one that is noncomedigenic. (won't clog your pores).Avoid oil based ones. They won't do you any favours. I use one from Models Prefer cosmetics, soon to be relaunched as Y.B.F. by Stacey on QVCUK.. Your skin feels better after I've worn it that before  I put it on! She's doing a relaunch on Sat, 30 AUgust.Good price too. I've also used Smashbox. You can use others as long as they are as I said above. Good luck!

  8. it might depend on how you apply it....try using a cosmetic wedge to apply it and a powder to set it

  9. Hi I know what you mean I am allergic to most liquid foundations and I find that it does the same to me and makes me break out in spots, I think because most of the time it contains oils that clog pores, no matter how expensive the brand is it doesnt mean to say that you wont be allergic to it. If you know that you cannot use liquid foundation then just use the mousse from now on, it saves having to get rid of spots which can take ages to lol
