Why do I always have dreams of a demon or the devil trying to kill/posses me?

Its getting real frustrating because I dont know why Im having these dreams that are so vivid and real. I have one of these at least once a week. This has been going on for the past 3 months a friend of mine who was a psycology major said the demon represented me fear of leaving college and entering the real world. But I dont know.

I mean the other night I had this dream that I was floating above my body and I started traveling around my city but no one was around. Then I felt a chill go down my spine and something yanked me back to my apt building. Where I saw the girl from the Exorcist on the stairs in the crab walk postion. She looked up at me and laughed an evil laugh and crab walked up the stairs and into my apt till she was right next to my sleeping body. Then she licked my face then looked up at me and started laughing then started to strangle me. I mean I felt like I was actually being strangled and couldnt breath. Then I woke up gasping for air and I was thrashign around

The sleep paralysis is  common. it always occurs upon waking, and involves the inability to move for a split second, feeling watched, or seeing something evil standing at the foot of the bed.... sometimes it is associated with a feeling of floating above the bed. This freaks some people out to the point that they think they are being abducted by aliens. Also, the feeling strangled is part of it. I think the  crab girl was just your mind trying to explain the way you felt -- being creative, so to speak.

Now that you know what you're going through is common, maybe the stress you feel will go away.

You might purchase a cheap voice-activated recorder, then record your snoring and lack of breathing (if any) over several nights.

Because he probably is to some degree.  Call out the name of Jesus and he will flee.  If you know God, the devil will come after you.  Do not fear him.  He cannot harm you.  Just resist him and use Jesus name.

I think you are seeing actual spirits. As such my advice is to pray before going to bed asking Jesus Christ to protect you and your family from all harm and danger and to cleanse your dream from every evil spirit. Before going to your bed you also need to rebuke those spirits commanding them to leave you alone in the name of Jesus Christ. I think if you do the above your situation will change for the better.

First, do NOT depend too much on your friend or anyone on this site, including me.  

That said, one POTENTIAL, and I stress POTENTIAL, interpretation is that the dream is a symbolic representation of a repressed memory.

Ignore the specifics.  The movie has nothing to do with anything.  Your unconcious speaks to you in images, rather than words, and derives those images, most often, from your personal storehouse of everything you have seen, including Linda Blair projectile vomiting Campbell's pea soup.

What are the feelings?  Fear, strangulation, loss of control.

If the dreams keep up, or if your emotional response to them continues, I suggest you talk to a professional (preferably one with an actual degree).  I suggest going to the school's counseling center ASAP just to get some resolution.

It's because in your real life you are trying to "kill" something in your life. Mabey a job, or smoking, a relationship? Something that is really eating at you makes it feel like a demon. Figure out what your real life demon is and it is the answer.

Dreams vs Demons.   Dreams first.  In both dreams there is the obvious lack of control over your situations which could mean that you feel trapped and out of control by something in your life.  You must examine your life for the source and take steps to put yourself in control and the dreams will stop.

Second - Demons do exist and can cause these exact problems.  It comes by invitation.  You have unknowingly invited it in your life by something done 3 months ago.  You could have had your fortune read, played with Ouija boards, consulted a psychic, anything like this is an invitation.  You might have accepted or bought a piece of art that is a satanic symbol.  It uses this invitation as it's door to you and each manifestation is asking if you accept it's influence but you don't realize it and don't reject is so it grows in strength.   You must reject this invitation and this demon out loud in your bedroom.  This is where it attacks you.  If it is an object or art you have probably got it in your bedroom.  Throw it out.

Say out loud to it. "What ever your reason for being here, I reject it and you and I demand that you leave this place at once.   I ask God to show me what it is that I have done or accepted that you are claiming and I give it to God right now.  So now it belongs to Him and not you.  You have no claim here any longer.  So in the name of Jesus, I demand you to leave me alone."  

The only power over evil is the power in Jesus.  But the most powerful thing He can do is change your whole life.  Find out.

I believe God is going to use you in a very powerful way that will help many people. The devil comes to rob, kill and destroy and for no other reason. Stay prayerful and don't be afraid. God is for you! He will bring  to pass  what he has in store for you in due season (when he is ready and so are you). Don't let the devil fool you. He is the father of  lies! Ask the Lord to give you direction for your life. Don't be distracted you can overcome thru Jesus Christ and him only!

Until you accept the fact that the demon may be real, you will never find peace and will continue to have these problems. It's a fact of life. Psychology in my mind is just as bad as rape... they feed you lies, and think that those who believe the truth have a "psychological disorder" which is how my psychiatrist diagnosed me.
