Question:

Why do I always like the underdog??

This is sort of a comical examination of my life but one I also think has some meaning?

Ever since I was a kid I went for the underdog in certain aspects. If there were two pianos sitting in a room I preferred the baby grand over the grand. If there were a stretch limo and a basic limo I'd like the basic.

Now in my new job (I work in the media dept) I feel the need to push the 'underdog' tv (i.e. I'd say how much I love Vizio televisions when the person is comparing it with the Panasonic).

Does anyone else do this? I'm a pretty normal person lol I don't want it to look weird and all, it's just been something I've always done without thinking about it.

  1. I do that too, you're definitely not the only one! I like to promote the lesser-known or lesser-liked. I think we just enjoy seeing lowlier brands or things succeed! :)

  2. I can understand.  I don't do that for everything but when we compare two things, one being the "lesser known/younger" or underdog, we wish to give them a chance.

For me the some of it comes from the fact that after I graduated college I was the total underdog for many job opportunities and I don't understand why I wasn't given the chance.

Underdog feelings start when two or more things are compared, one being favored.  We then place an emotional value on both things, (for instance the baby grand vs the grand piano)  and favor the lesser because in our mind it's just as good or better than the favored.  It also feels good to us when we see the proposed favored (the grand piano) not chosen.  Like in sports the favored loses, that's awesome.

The perfect examples that I know of are when the New England Patriots lost in the Superbowl,  and when Obama beat Hillary.

I could write more, there are different sides to this topic,  and you're normal.
