  1. Probably because you have a low self-esteem, or you are really self conscious. It is not a bad thing to care what people think, just don't let it control your decisions

  2. First answer was excellent. I feel the same way as you do, i dont really care what people think, but then again i am not able (no one is really) to get through life without the help of others. So, those who say just go around doing what you want with a big ole attatude are wrong because that really doesnt get you too far in life. So, i think were on the right track to care what others think, however, the trick is to not let them take advantage of you being a caring person because most people are ego maniacs that only care about themselves and will use you,and that my friend is why you are not easily opening up to people because you are right not too!!!  BEWARE of the Sheeple!

  3. Everyone has the want to be liked and loved.  So caring what others think about you is not a bad thing.  You just have to realize that in order to really become close to someone, you have to open up to them.  You must risk them potentially disliking you  for the closeness you will likely gain.

Maybe you're afraid they disaprove of your past decisions or your mindset.  Maybe you think they have little in common with your own personality.  I can't really speculate much more because I don't know you.  Sometimes, talking to others can help you to learn about yourself, in which case, you may be afraid of learning about/accepting yourself.
