Question:

Why do I crave Spicy Foods during pregnancy?

Hello,

Can someone help me. I am two months pregnant and this isn't my first Rodeo, I have two other children however I've never craved spicy foods to this magnitude. I know the ever changing hormones and influx of blood flow, however it appears my body is CRAVING something missing from my body and I have this overwhelming desire for ANYTHING spicy from peppers to Thai and Mexican food.

Can someone share with me the "possibilities" my body maybe needing from all this spicy demands?

Also, aside from the potential indegestion and heartburn, are there any potential harmful side-affects imposed to the baby from all the spicy food?

Thanks in advance........

  1. i don't know why, i don't think any one knows the real reason why. and no spicy food wont hurt your baby.

I'm a vegetarian, and i crave chicken or a big mac sometimes. i don't understand why. but i know I'm perfectly healthy.. Dr says so... all my blood tests came back positive/normal... (im saying i don't need the meat)

    so really... who knows....

  2. means itsa boy ..some say ..in my case it was true. Youre craving the endorphines that hot foods produce in your body .Endorphins make you relaxed, also peppers have more vitsmain C than oranges

  4. It definetly doesn't hurt the baby- I read it last night in 'What to Expect When You Are Expecting'.  Not sure why you would have the cravings........

  5. I wouldn't be concerned with sideaffects. I had the same problem with my son. I craved hot sauce all the time, but had such horrible acid reflux that plain water made the acid reflux react. When I asked the doctor about it, they said other than causing myself pain from acid reflux, it did nothing more than make other people chuckle.
